Creative and Beautiful Wedding Portraits - Harburn Barn Wedding

As a Glasgow wedding photographer, reportage, candid documentary - or however you’d like to describe it- is, and always will be, a massive part of my wedding photography style at each and every wedding I’m lucky enough to capture. I’m a great believer in telling the natural story of your day as it unfolds. To me, modern wedding photography is synonymous with this approach and should form the basis of an all round high quality wedding gallery. .

However, there should always be a place for creating artistic and beautiful couple portraits!

When Johanna and Angus booked me for their wonderful Harburn Barn wedding they told me how they were drawn into my relaxed, candid documentary approach but also wanted a big emphasis on their portraits. I was only too willing to oblige and they trusted my judgment by giving me free reign to advise them on the day when I felt the best opportunities in terms of lighting and timing arose. This approach may not be for everyone but it worked an absolute treat at Jo and Angus’ relaxed barn wedding.

What also worked in our favour was Jo and Angus’ decision to do a late morning bride and groom first look prior to guests arriving. This gave me the opportunity to not only capture the first look but also capture some beautiful portraits in the slight overcast conditions.

As a Scottish wedding photographer I’m used to experiencing four seasons in a day so when the clouds made way for some glorious sunshine I knew we’d have the opportunity to capture some stunning images during both golden hour and blue hour.

I wanted to provide Jo and Angus with different types of images but in a consistent style that naturally reflected their day. As you can see from the gallery, below, there’s not only a mixture of black and white and colour portraits but we also captured both relaxed and more formal images. Within this, I used various methods such as lens flare, reflections, bokeh and off camera flash to create a set of what Jo described as “absolutely stunning”.

I’m more than happy to offer advice and discuss the logistics of fitting these mini portrait sessions into your day without being away from your guests for any length of time. Don’t worry, I’m not the type of photographer that takes you away from your guests for an hour or so and my candid documentary style will always remain. Creating such portraits is essentially about preparation and timing.

If you’re looking for a wedding photographer who can capture your day in a reportage style and has an eye for creating beautiful and unique couple portraits to compliment the natural story of your day please get in touch to check on availability and have any questions you may have answered.

Thanks for reading and I hope you enjoy looking through the images below.
