The two best things about being a Scottish Wedding Photographer, are getting to capture wedding photography at Boturich Castle, and getting to meet lovely couples like Neha and Ricky. I first met these two when I captured their pre-wedding photoshoot in Glencoe, so seeing them again on their wedding day felt like catching up with friends.
Historic Boturich Castle and its extensive grounds on the banks of Loch Lomond is an impressive Scottish wedding venue. When I capture wedding photography at Boturich Castle, I never fail to be blown away by the picturesque setting that makes an amazing backdrop in wedding photos. And the staff there are always so friendly and professional. Nothing is ever too much trouble for these guys. They’re even nice to Scottish wedding photographers!
On the day, I woke to a mild and cloudy day with sunny intervals which for June was pretty standard! I headed straight to Boturich Castle to catch up with Neha and her bridal party who were getting ready in Boturich Castle’s bridal suite. I wanted to get those all-important bridal preparation images. I found Neha in the capable hands of professional make-up artist Tabby and hairstylist Lyndsey from Love Hair in Glasgow. Everybody was in really good spirits and I got some great images.
I then caught up with Ricky and his grooms party who all looked very smart in kilts and full Scottish attire. I got some great images of them outside with the lake and mountains in the background.

By now, the bridal party were ready. Neha looked stunning in a rose gold dress with exquisite sequins that she bought from Pannaz Boutique. The dress had a western style top with a v neckline and a lengha style skirt perfectly blending the East meets West vibe of the wedding. Her hands were decorated with traditional henna and she carried a gorgeous posy of red roses made by Flowers by Cherry Blossom, who did all of the flowers on the day.
Guests began arriving and enjoyed arrival drinks in Boturich Castle’s stunning new glass pavilion. Many of Neha and Ricky’s guests had travelled from Birmingham where the pair live, and there was a palpable air of excitement around. Before the main ceremony there were some traditional Indian wedding rituals.
Now, it’s always great to work with other professionals in the wedding industry, and this was certainly the case working with videographer Jack Stewart who was there to capture the wedding film.
The wedding ceremony was held outside and thankfully the weather was mild. Seats were arranged on the lawn outside the glass pavilion looking out over the lake. Both Neha and Ricky were escorted down the aisle by their parents.
Storytelling wedding photography in Glasgow
The wedding ceremony was conducted by local celebrant Lindy Irving. After a lovely ceremony that included the exchanging of garlands, there was a fun confetti moment that I captured perfectly.
Everybody then enjoyed a drinks reception outside, with traditional Indian canapes by Banana Leaf. Magician Michael Neto entertained guests with his close-up magic tricks and there was an ice-cream cart provided by Equi’s. Neha and Ricky had really thought of everything to entertain their guests. I took my chance to get some great images of the wedding party as well as some candid images of guests enjoying themselves.
The wedding reception was held in Boturich Castle’s glass pavilion that had been dressed exquisitely. Guests were seated first so that Neha and Ricky could be welcomed warmly. And guests did so by waving their napkins over their heads. It was a really fun moment and produced some great images.
Speeches were before the food which is always a good idea and were very well received. Everybody then enjoyed a sumptuous wedding breakfast.
After the meal, as guests were happy milling about enjoying exclusive use of Boturich Castle I took my chance to quickly whisk Neha and Ricky away for a few minutes for a mini photoshoot of them around the grounds of Boturich Castle. I got some amazing images that I know they’re thrilled with.
We were then joined by the rest of the wedding party and did some fun smoke canon images that were really effective.
Creative and Natural Boturich Castle wedding photography
Evening celebrations started with the cutting of a naked three-tiered wedding cake made by The Little Cake Parlour, this was followed by a romantic first dance for Neha and Ricky. Not that they were on the dancefloor for long. Their guests were really up for a party and the DJ from Play It By Ear Entertainment made sure they got one!
As an experienced Indian wedding photographer, I know where I need to be to get the very best images of the party and that’s on the dancefloor. So, I bravely took my life into my own hands and got stuck in. It was well worth it as the images I got were so fun and perfectly suited to my style of documentary wedding photography.
Before taking my leave, I wanted one more very special photo. I quickly whisked Neha and Ricky outside to get a moonlit image of them by the shores of Loch Lomond with the mountains beyond and the moody sky above. I love taking creative portraits and this one turned out even better than I’d hoped. It was the perfect image to close the story of Neha and Ricky’s day.
If, like Neha and Ricky, you’re thinking of having your wedding at Boturich Castle, and are looking for an experienced Boturich Castle wedding photographer to capture your day, then feel free to get in touch. I’d love to hear about your wedding plans.
I’ll leave the last words to Neha and Ricky. Here’s what they had to say about me
“When I first started wedding planning, Craig’s Instagram page popped up and I was instantly hooked on his beautiful, candid and original style of photography, which is exactly what we wanted! I didn’t even bother looking at others, and secured him before even booking our venue.
From the get go, he was professional, laid-back, patient with us and took everything on board which I had requested. From our engagement shoot photos to the great communication, nothing was too much for him and he put us at ease during our shoots and venue visit.
Our wedding photos are a dream to look back on now and really impact on how we can live the day over and over again – they are stylistically edited and completely unique, but that doesn't take away from the natural and candid documentary style story that has been told.
All of our family and friends have commented on how beautiful and emotional the slideshow has been to view – we can’t thank you enough for helping to capture our day so perfectly!”
