As an award-winning Scottish Wedding Photographer, I get to work at the very best wedding venues in Scotland. And this is certainly the case when I return to capture wedding photography at Harburn Barn. Johanna and Angus chose the perfect location for their Spring wedding in Scotland.
Harburn Barn is a stunning wedding venue situated between Glasgow and Edinburgh. This beautiful and atmospheric stone barn, comes with a charming courtyard and breathtaking views of the rolling countryside. Giving me an endless supply of picture-perfect backdrops for wedding photos. And with exclusive use for the entire weekend. Johanna, Angus and their guests could really relax and make the space their own.
On the day, I woke to a cloudy day and headed over to Harburn Barn. I started by capturing some images of the barn all dressed and ready for the wedding. It looked rustic, cosy and utterly enchanting thanks to venue dressers The Little Dressing Co.
I also caught with Johanna and her bridal party who were getting ready in a cottage onsite. I found Johanna in the capable hands of professional hairstylist and make-up artist Iliana Gerletti. There was a real buzz of excitement and I got some great preparation images.

Johanna looked amazing in her dress that she bought at Pretty Woman Bridal Studio in Edinburgh. It had a halter neck style with a low back and an A-line skirt that gave Johanna an amazing silhouette in all of my images. Johanna’s long blonde hair had been elegantly braided down her back. And as if all that wasn’t enough – Johanna smiled all day long. Us Glasgow wedding photographers do love a smiley bride.
I also captured a couple of images of Angus all dressed and ready to go and he didn’t disappoint. He wore traditional Scottish attire with a kilt made by Houston Kiltmakers and had a ceremonial sword. I then captured a first look between Johanna and Angus outside overlooking the rolling hills. Before taking a them for a walk and a mini photoshoot.
Usually, my wedding photography is more documentary in style so it was really nice to really hone in on portrait photography. And I got some creative portraits that I know Johanna and Angus are thrilled with. Here, take a look!
By now, excited guests were beginning to arrive and were enjoying welcome drinks outside on the lawn. Johanna is from Finland so a lot of guests travelled over specially for the wedding. So, it was lovely to see them get a warm welcome and experience a traditional Scottish wedding.
The bridal party were now all ready and consisted of Johanna and her four bridesmaids who looked elegant in dark plum colour dresses from the ASOS Anayla with love range. I got some great images of the bridal party before the ceremony.
Documentary wedding photography in Glasgow
The wedding ceremony was held in the beautiful stone barn, with its timber roof adorned with fairy lights it was a magical and romantic setting for a wedding ceremony. Johanna was walked down the aisle by her father. The ceremony was wonderfully personal as Johanna and Angus wrote their own vows and there was a traditional handfasting ritual. An emotional and heartfelt speech by a relative, and the youngest ring bearer I have ever encountered in the form of a smiling baby!
As an experienced Scottish wedding photographer, I have captured hundreds of wedding ceremonies and can confirm that Johanna and Angus’s was one of the sweetest and most personal ones I have had the pleasure of witnessing.
After the ceremony, everybody headed outside for a fun confetti moment that I captured perfectly. Before I took some great images of the wedding party outside. These guys were so much fun and I got some great images. Here, take a look!
As guests happily mingled and enjoyed the gardens and views, I took my chance to get some candid images of everybody relaxing and enjoying themselves. There were bubbles and lawn games for the young and not quite so young guests to enjoy.

By now, Harburn Barn had been dressed for the wedding breakfast with long rustic tables decorated with simple flowers in wine bottles, green foliage and the far wall adorned with strings of fairy lights. It looked amazing.
Everybody then enjoyed a delicious wedding breakfast prepared by Regis Banqueting who provided all of the food and drinks on the day. This was followed by some speeches that started with Johanna’s father and worked their way through most of the wedding party.
Everybody had something to say at Johanna and Angus’s wedding! The speeches were emotional and funny and very well received by everybody.
Guests then spilled back outside to soak up the last of the sunrays and take in the beauty of their surroundings and I took the chance to get some great candid images of Johanna, Angus and their guests.
Evening celebrations started with the cutting of delicious two-tiered naked wedding cake with a cake topper reading ‘F*cking Finally’ which quite frankly delighted me! As guests headed to the bar and enjoyed exclusive use of the barn, I quickly whisked Johanna and Angus away for a few minutes for a romantic sunset photoshoot. Johanna and Angus were a dream to work with and we captured some of my favourite images of the day. Here, take a look!
After the sun had set the party really stepped up. Johanna and Angus booked traditional Ceilidh band The Haggis Chasers and after a romantic first dance, everybody was coaxed up on to the dancefloor for some traditional Scottish dancing. Not that Johanna and Angus’s guests needed much coaxing. They were definitely up for a party and I got some great dancefloor images.
Before taking my leave, I wanted my last shot to be outside as Harburn Barns look great lit up after dark. So, I quickly took Johanna and Angus outside to stand by a fairy lit tree with the barn illuminated behind them. It was the perfect image to close the story of Johanna and Angus’s Day.
A wonderfully warm and friendly wedding for a wonderfully warm and friendly couple. Congratulations to Johanna and Angus for getting married and for creating such an amazing day for you all to remember. I hope my images will enable you to relive it again and again for many years to come.

I’ll leave the last words to Johanna and Angus. Here’s what they had to say about me:
“Thank you so much Craig, these are absolutely stunning. I must have watched that slideshow video 10 times in the last hour, its perfect. Thank you for helping us make our most special day and dream wedding come true. These pictures really capture all the best moments and we couldn’t have asked for a more amazing photographer”.
